‘Mr. Robot,’ off to an intriguing start

The season finale of ‘Mr. Robot’ had a Twitter audience of 1.12 million.

Cable network USA made news by delaying the season-one finale of “Mr. Robot” a week following the recent on-air shootings in Roanoke, but the episode was still able to find a large audience on Twitter.

The finale, which featured a shooting scene similar enough to Roanoke to warrant the delay, generated a unique Twitter audience of 1.12 million, according to Nielsen Social, or the number of accounts that saw at least one tweet about the episode.

That was No. 2 among all entertainment programs for the week ended Sept. 6, behind USA’s “WWE Monday Night Raw,” which had an audience of 1.80 million.

In fact, just one other entertainment program last week surpassed the 1 million threshold in terms of Twitter audience, VH1’s “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta” with an audience of 1.01 million.

Meanwhile, ESPN2’s coverage of the U.S. Open on Sunday generated a Twitter audience of 4.26 million, tops among sporting events and overall for the week.

ABC’s college football game between Alabama and Wisconsin on Saturday night had the most total tweets of the week among sporting events, 149,000, as well as the No. 2 unique Twitter audience at 4.03 million.
